- Cataratas - Las investigaciones han relacionado la luz UVB directamente con el desarrollo de cataratas, que se produce cuando el cristalino del ojo se vuelve gradualmente turbio y opaco, pudiendo provocar ceguera total si no se trata.
- Degeneración macular: la mácula está situada en el centro de la membrana ocular llamada retina y es la responsable de la visión clara y detallada. Con el tiempo y la exposición a los rayos UV, el cristalino del ojo filtra la mayor parte de la luz ultravioleta perjudicial antes de que tenga la oportunidad de dañar la retina y la mácula.
